Champagny en Vanoise is part of the La Plagne ski area, but we're classing it as a separate resort as it sits in a different valley to La Plagne altogether. If you're holidaying in Champagny, you won't be out and about in La Plagne in the evening, for example. Unless you want to take a 1.5-hour taxi back home? You'll be skiing in La Plagne but staying in sunny, traditional Champagny. A charming little place great for families. At the top of Champagny, the chairlifts serve several green and blue runs, ideal for beginners. Experienced skiers can reach the village by the red piste of Le Bois, which runs through the forest, or you can try the mythical Mont de la Guerre piste, which attracts many skiers.

Pralognan is probably one of my favourite places in the French Alps. Its not flashy, and its not huge. If big Apres scenes and huge ski areas are your thing this probably isn't the resort for you. However what Pralognan does have is real charm. Its a small village that is very popular with the French, especially families. The lift area is small due to the village sitting right on the border of the Vanoise National Park. But this means if you enjoy ski touring the terrain is endless. With such large mountains around (including the Grande Casse, the areas highest peak) Pralognan doesn't get much sun during the winter. Snow stays a long time here and this allows it to boast the 4th largest cross country skiing area in France with some fantastic routes for all abilities.

St Foy is a secret that's now got out. Often overlooked thanks to its more well known neighbours, this little gem retains its old world charm and a village community feel with a good mix of luxury accommodation and relaxed nightlife. The resort is small and compact with many of the runs spread out amongst the trees with plenty of mountain restaurants to take in the views from. For those off-piste fiends out there, this place is a mecca with endless backcountry terrain and even the ability to ski into Italy providing you go with a guide.

With the official title of 'most beautiful village in the Haut Savoie', if charming streets and quaint markets are your jam, you probably shouldn't ski anywhere else. Although the village sits at a fairly low altitude at just 700m, the village resort of Samoëns enjoys a prime location and exceptional panoramas in the heart of the French Alps. Attached to the Grand Massif area, the resort is connected to four other stations: Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Be sure to take advantage of the Grand Massif ski area, 265 km of of pistes in total. Enough for any avid skier.

Val Cenis is a charming, family-friendly ski resort in the Maurienne Valley of Savoie, France, bordering the Vanoise National Park and Italy. Formed by the merger of several villages—including Lanslebourg, Lanslevillard, and Termignon—it offers a 125km ski area, 1,500m vertical drop, and a reputation for authentic, traditional atmosphere. Known for intermediate-friendly, scenic, and tree-lined runs, including the 20km "Escargot" green run, which is one of the longest in Europe. It’s less crowded than its famous neighbors, more relaxed, and perfect if you want big mountains without the big-resort chaos — just clean air, epic views, and that cozy “real Alps” feeling.

You have the tree skiing old world charm of Megeve or the Family focussed 'Friendly Menuires' your go to family spot in the 3 valleys. Avoriaz gives you that ski in ski out royalty that's so good when skiing with children. Or Les Gets has families coming back year and year again for the laid back atmosphere and cruisy runs.
French resorts may still be called villages but they've outgrown the title. Ski resorts are more like towns, Chamonix is arguably a city break, there's even a Macdonalds. For groups this gives you heaps of options from giving non-skiers plenty to do to making sure you have pistes suitable for everyone in the group. Alpe d'Huez is a great choice and perfect for a bar crawl, Les 2 Alpes is arguably the home of music festivals in the Alps or Val Thorens gives you high altitude slopes and a buzzing atmosphere.
Powder or park? Either works in France. For powder seekers, La Masse is an underrated spot in the Three Valleys, with easy access from Les Menuires. Hire a guide to make the most of the mountain. Tignes Val d'Isere has incredible potential if you know where you're looking. Or try Avoriaz for its award-winning natural Stash Park. There's even a Lil' Stash if you're just starting out. Les 2 Alpes has some of the best shapers in the game, the snowparks here have a reputation for being meticulously looked after. Snowboarders are spoilt for choice.
France is epitomised by the high altitude open air apres of Folie Douce, brimming with acrobatics & pyrotechnics, you'll be dancing on the tables and spraying champagne in no time. But there's far more besides, from cocktails & tapas bars to homemade rums. France gives as good as it gets from the lifts closing to the early hours. And there's always somewhere to go for glasses of deep red by a roaring fire. From the underground clubs in Val Thorens to the home of live music in Meribel, France has it all
Shop till you drop in Courchevel 1850. It's packed with designer brands, you can even go on an art hunt around the resort with works of giant proportions from Richard Olinski. Megeve will have you bathing in cobbled streets, church bells and top-notch dining, whilst Tignes could give you the adrenaline rush you're craving both on and off the skis - you could even go diving under the frozen lake. Talk about unique.
Budget pending, there are pockets (Hermès pockets obvs) of the mountains where the unimaginable becomes a reality. If the lifestyle you’re accustomed to consists of mind-blowing real estate, designer shops, Michelin-starred restaurants, private parties, private jets and après ski starting from 20,000€, panic not, your needs will be met! And by that we mean Courchevel 1850. Val d'Isere is less glitz but arguably more glam or head to Megeve if you're looking for old money.
