La Plagne is one of those resorts that has endless terrain to explore. If you're a keen skier or snowboarder, it's paradise! There are wide open runs for beginners, world class tree runs for those low light days and some of the wildest off-piste in the Alps. If venturing off-piste is your goal, be sure to speak to local guides. Stay safe out there kids! The connection to Les Arcs opens up different terrain that has a more alpine feel to it, meaning you will never get bored on holiday. The local food and culture is another main attraction; there's nothing better than eating a hearty alpine meal after an epic day exploring the mountain.
La Plagne is a massive ski area. When combined with Les Arcs (to create Paradiski) there are over 425km of pistes to explore. La Plagne has a formidable glacier, the Bellecote. At a height of 3250m, and with 70% of pistes being above 2000m, La Plagne is very reliable for snow.
The ten villages that make up the resort have something for everyone, the majority providing ski-in/ski-out accommodation, serviced by a network of 94 lifts and gondolas. Exploring has never been so easy. Nestled in the Tarentaise Valley, you'll experience the carb heavy, cheese dominated Savoyard cuisine that we love, and alpine traditions to match. Génépi anyone?
Each village is different and depending on what atmosphere you’re after will dictate the best places to stay. From the après hubs of Plagne Centre or Plage 1800 to the highest point of Plagne 2000 and Aime La Plagne or family friendly options such as Montchavin - Les Coches and Belle Plagne to the quiet retreats of Montalbert or Champagny en Vanoise.
Plagne 1800 and Plagne centre are the best villages to stay in if you’re looking for a little apres. La Bergerie is a great open air club of sorts up on the slopes above 1800, a great place for table dancing before you head down to the villages. There’s also a great on piste scene around Plagne centre or head to Igloo Igloo for you guessed it, an igloo themed bar, though it’s much warmer than an actual igloo.
La Plagne is made up of 11 villages each at a slightly different altitude. At the lower end, Champagny-en-Vanoise and Montchavin sit at 1,250 metres, with a traditional alpine atmosphere and family-friendly vibes. Moving up, Montalbert is at 1,350 metres with plenty of tree-lined slopes, while Les Coches is at 1,450 metres. Higher up, Plagne 1800 (1,800 metres) has more chalet-style accommodations, and Plagne Bellecôte (1,930 metres) has a lively après-ski scene and glacier access. At 2,050 metres, Plagne Villages and Plagne Soleil give ski-in/ski-out options with sunny exposures. Finally, Belle Plagne, at 2,050 metres, is car-free This diverse range of villages, spread between 1,250 and 2,100 meters, pretty much ensures you can find a village to suit your ski style in La Plagne.
La Plagne has a variety of different lift pass options to suit different types of skiers and snowboarders and group make ups. The resort is part of the Paradiski ski area, which connects to Les Arcs, providing access to over 425 km of pistes. Skiers can choose from La Plagne-only passes for more localised skiing or opt for the full Paradiski pass for unlimited exploration (including the Les Arcs ski area. Yodl automatically calculates the best lift pass options for your group at checkout, giving you access to any discounts for families, groups, and early bookings or beginners (the cool ski pass). In La Plagne, children under 5 ski for free - however, you do still need to get them a lift pass. With modern, high-speed lifts and an efficient system, La Plagne ensures minimal waiting times and maximum time on the slopes.
It has to be Au Coin du Feu in Plagne Soleil, perfect for long lunches and wood fire grilled meats, raclettes, fondue, great service and great wine. It’s the one for us.
The pistes around Montchavin and Montalbert are stunning. The tree cover gives great visibility when the weather comes in but they’re equally stunning in the sun.
Le Mine Bar in Plagne 1800 is great for live music, the whole place is decked out like an old mine from barrel tables to the loos. You’ll find bands on throughout the week.
