Just 90 minutes from Geneva airport, Avoriaz is the jewel in the crown of the Portes du Soleil and is popular for short stays as well as longer ski trips. Perched on a cliff overlooking Morzine, you’ll have access to the largest ski area in Europe spanning 650km across France and Switzerland.

You’re pretty much on the French Swiss border in Avoriaz and it’s super easy to cross over to Champery from the Lindarets bowl. Switzerland for lunch and back over to France in time for dinner. Don’t worry, you won’t have to carry your passport around either.
The “Avoriaz SnowZone” is home to a whole host of parks making it a freestyle mecca of sorts. With the Snowpark de la Chappelle, Snowpark Arare, The Stash, L’il Stash, Burton kids Parkway and the Superpipe all in the Avoriaz area. The Stash is our favourite, a 100% natural snow playground created by Burton through the trees to create flowing lines - great after fresh snow or even when the snow is falling (due to visibility through the trees).
Avoriaz is home to a handful of festivals that are well worth checking out if you’re after something a little different in your next ski break. Home to both Rock the Pistes and the infamous Snowboxx normally in March both attracting huge global artists and upping the resorts après game whilst they’re in town.
Avoriaz is widely regarded as one of the most family-friendly ski resorts in the French Alps. Here’s why: The resort is completely car-free, making it super safe for children to roam freely. Transportation within the village is by foot, skis, or horse-drawn sleighs, adding a magical touch for families. Most accommodations in Avoriaz are ski-in/ski-out, which means families can easily access the slopes without the hassle of long walks or shuttle rides. The resort has excellent beginner areas and gentle slopes, perfect for kids and novice skiers. The "Lil’ Stash" snow park is specifically designed for younger riders, with fun features and a safe environment. Avoriaz also has several highly-rated ski schools, including Village des Enfants, which cater specifically to children with expert instructors and tailored programs. Beyond skiing, families can enjoy activities such as sledging, ice skating, or visiting the Aquariaz water park, which features tropical pools, slides, and a lazy river.
Mamo’s just above the Linderet bowl. It’s easy to get stuck in a little loop here and Mamo’s is the perfect place to gather your group again. The food’s not bad either.
Around Lindarets is one of our favourite spots, especially if it’s snowing as the tree cover gives great contrast giving much better visibility. Check out The Stash park for a bit of fun.
It’s hard to look past the Folie Douce for après ski in Avoriaz. The resort is aimed at family skiing but the addition or the Folie and the multiple freestyle parks attracts a party crowd as well.
